Vietnam attends Thailand Rice Convention 2017

A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh, has attended the Thailand Rice Convention 2017 in Bangkok from May 28 – 30.

The convention, hosted by the Department of Foreign Trade under the Thai Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with related organisations from both the public and private sectors, drew the participation of around 1,500 delegates from 40 countries and territories worldwide. 

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha chaired the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech themed “Thai Rice Trade and Its Future”, outlining major policies of the government towards the sustainable development of the country’s rice industry.

Thai Minister of Commerce Apiradi Tantraporn told reporters that Thailand the convention was held under the theme "rice plus" to showcase Thailand's potential in the global arena for quality rice trade and production. 

Various innovative rice products were presented at the event, showing how far the Thai rice industry has advanced in its technological development and technological integration, in response to the government's Thailand 4.0 initiative to transform Thailand into a value-based economy.

During the event, the Vietnamese delegates participated in discussions with specialists, scientists and researchers to seek measures for improvement of rice productivity and quality associated with sustainable development while promoting cooperation between rice processors and exporters, thus contributing to the stability and growth of the global rice market.

On the sidelines of the convention, the delegation also held working sessions with Minister Apiradi Tantraporn and representatives of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, and visited several local rice processing facilities.
