Vietnamese unhappy about Xiaomi's customer service

Officially setting foot in the Vietnamese market two months ago, in mid-March, Xiaomi was expected to bring to Vietnamese users high-quality products with suitable models and reasonable prices.

At ‘MI IS HERE’ on March 15, Xiaomi’s managers stressed that community building is one of the vital elements for the brand’s survival. Apart from creating a common playing field for all Xiaomi users, the Chinese phone manufacturer said it would always listen to its fans.

However, complaints have been made recently about Xiaomi 10.000mAh gen 2, the backup battery which once sold very well in Vietnam. Users say the battery makes smartphones’ IC charge break down and they cannot charge their phones. 

More seriously, the problem has occurred with many Xiaomi’s models, including Redmi Note 3 Pro and Redmi Note 4, and not with any other brands.

Xiaomi’s representative, answering Vietnamese press, stated that Xiaomi will not apply a warranty for the products brought to Vietnam across the border gates, not through official channels.

Local newspapers said that the batteries are the products of Xiaomi. Therefore, Xiaomi must take responsibility for its low quality products instead of denying the responsibility. 

An analyst said Xiaomi should be reminded that it is the community of people – the buyers and users of Xiaomi’s products, who have helped the young Chinese brand survive and develop. 

On some forums, people have urged a boycott of Xiaomi’s products because of the manufacturer’s uncooperative action.

“Xiaomi seems to forget the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 lesson,” the analyst said.

Half a year ago, Samsung was once in danger because of the explosion scandal. And the South Korean manufacturer gave the world a lesson in "customer care": it recalled all the products, both with and without defects, and compensated customers with discount vouchers.

If Samsung had denied its responsibility, it would not have the great success with Galaxy S8 now.

A Xiaomi 10.000mAh gen 2 battery is priced at VND300,000 only. However, analysts say a small product can spoil the fame of the manufacturer.

After delays, Xiaomi has officially joined the Vietnamese smartphone market through Digiworld, the well-known Vietnamese technology product distributor. The representative of Xiaomi said at a press conference in mid-March that Xiaomi products will be distributed through 6,000 points of sale across the country.

In related news, Galaxy S8 is sold in Vietnam at VND15-17 million.
