Heat is expected to be the norm between April 30 and May 2, when the whole country takes a rest to celebrate Reunification Day (April 30) and Labor Day (May 1), even though there will be sporadic rain, according to the central weather forecast service.

On Saturday, rain caused flooding in some areas in Ho Chi Minh City.

Rains and strong winds would likely happen at night in some locales while it will be chiefly hot in southern Vietnam in daytime, Le Dinh Quyet, a senior weather forecaster said, adding temperatures will be between 24 and 36 degrees Celsius.

The central region will be hit the hardest, with a high of 38 degrees Celsius.

The hot spell will strike the areas from Nghe An Province to Quang Ngai Province, with intervals of showers and temperatures ranging from 25 to 38 degrees Celsius.

In the northern region, it will be sunny in the daytime and there will be no rain at night on Sunday. The temperature fluctuates between 21 and 36 degrees Celsius.
